Note: There are several areas of discoloration on the petals of one earring, ranging from the size of a pin head to the size of a poppy seed, as well as some wear/discoloration around the hinges of both earrings' clips. One earring has a lumpy imperfection in the metal that seems to be an innate flaw and has a scuff over it. Some of these spots are visible with the naked eye, while others require magnification to observe. Please see photos for detail.
Condition: This item is pre-owned and in good condition. No structural damage to the metal. Visible spots or imperfections apparent up close. Any wear, tear & tarnish is consistent with age and regular use.
Notes about the designer: Joel Arthur Rosenthal, ‘the Fabergé of our time,’ as he has been called, was born in New York City in 1943. Rosenthal graduated with a degree in art history from Harvard before moving to Paris in 1966. He began his professional career in the film industry, but eventually opened a needlepoint shop, where his clients came to include Hermès and Valentino. In 1977, after working with Bulgari in New York, he returned to Paris to open a shop in the Place Vendôme. JAR, his initials, were the only source of identification on the façade. Working with his partner, Pierre Jeannet, Rosenthal still creates unique, superbly crafted and intricate jewelry. He is known for pairing unusual gemstones with non-traditional materials and playing with color and proportion. In 2013, Rosenthal was the first living ‘artist of gems’ to be honored with a retrospective at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
