First minted in 1909, Lincoln cent is a very popular coin. The Lincoln wheat cents were in production between 1909 and 1958 and the Lincoln memorial pennies were in production between 1959 and 2008. In 2009, the Lincoln bicentennial coins were minted to celebrate the 200th birthday of US President Abraham Lincoln. In 2010, the shield cent was introduced. Fun Facts about 1909 s vdb & 1955 penny

  • The US Lincoln cent was designed by Victor D. Brenner, whose initials are associated with the famous 1909 s vdb penny.
  • The 1955 double die penny is famous as a result of minting error. An estimated 20,000-24,000 coins struck this way.
  • The mintmarks are “S” for San Francisco, “D” for Denver.
